Therefore, consider placing the detector: On a wall about five feet above the floor (where people breathe).

How Do You Test A Carbon Monoxide Detector?
Having a carbon monoxide (CO) detector in your home is essential for safeguarding against this odorless, colorless gas. Regular testing ensures that your detector functions correctly. Follow these steps to keep your family safe:
1. Testing the CO Sensor with Canned CO Test Gas:
Purchase CO detector tester spray (available at most home improvement stores or online).
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for using the test spray.
Enclose the CO detector and the spray nozzle in a plastic bag.
Spray the canned CO test spray for at least 3 seconds into the bag.
If your detector is working, it will sound the alarm within 15 minutes, detecting over 500 parts per million of carbon monoxide.
Remove the test bag and sprayer, allowing fresh air to fan the detector.
Repeat the CO spray test annually to ensure the sensor remains effective.
2. Testing the Alarm’s Circuitry:
Locate the test button on your detector (usually next to a flashing LED light).
Press and hold down the test button on the device.
You should hear two beeps, indicating that the detector has entered testing mode.
If you don’t hear any sound or if the alarm is weak, replace the battery and retest.
